03:54 pm - get your contact lenses here! well, over there

My cousin recently started a reselling shop for all sorts of contact lenses and glasses. It's an affiliate of coastalcontact or something. Anyways, if I didn't have surgery recently that's where I'd buy my contacts. Because anyways I was already buying them online so why not get a deal AND help family? Unless your bro or cousin is in the business, I'll direct you right over there :)

http://www.verredecontact.com/

Click there, have a look, shop around, and save on your vision stuff.

or get surgery like me : www.lasikmd.com

One is cheaper than the other, I'll let you guess :D

02:03 pm - Failboat

This is a picture I have linked directly from a thread on potbs forums (www.burningsea.com)

failboat

thought it was funny and gives me an idea of what to try this summer. We sold the engine but I'm sure I could find an old table in the garbage by the road and try to make it float and use paddles.

03:04 pm - Pirate Bay guilty... really?

I'm not a super user of BitTorrent and bt-compatible softwares and I do not use bittorrent-oriented search engines very frequently, but I'm always interested in reading what's going on about them. I spend more time reading news about it than I spend time using them.

that said, The Pirate Bay got a guilty verdict yesterday. That's bad news, but at the same time, it will bring back on the radar all the BitTorrent stuff. Which means, we can have a better idea of the real picture. What we always hear is music and movies company that sue them. But we almost never have the chance to have indepth information about the other side, the sued ones. Our opinion is "if they are being sued, they must be bad". That's exactly what they want you to think. This will induce fear if you use their websites cause you know they could try to sue you too afterwards...  FEAR!

Nevertheless, here are 2 very interesting articles, not long but full of insights.

Start with the headlines:

And also this older article but still very interesting about ISohunt and problems some companies have with BitTorrent:

02:21 pm - alt-weekly comics apocalypse

I'm a fan of Redmeat. Been reading YEARS now and I really enjoy that kind of sick absurd mean humor. Now today I saw the warning... Economic situation is giving a hard time to small papers and they cut wherever they can. That includes in the comic pages!!! This is a non-sense.

Read this article and the others linked into it:

and support their efforts!

05:02 pm - devlog - launch 2.0

"/FW$%G The only reason why I delayed again is the CSS!!! It's not working properly in FF3. I hate FF3 but I was forced to upgrade from FF2. Now I cannot update my blog (2cents) except when using IE7 and my potbs fansite 2.0 is all messed up too. :( working on it folks, working on it...

11:14 am - golemizer log

I have been featured about 10 days ago on the devlog of the creator of the game Golemizer. Makes him happy to see we use his game in ways he dreamed of but didn't expect! Other than that, I should be working on my super maze I'm creating for this game. A giant maze where some players will fight monsters and get lost. Totally lost!

02:28 pm - devlog - ships update redux

ok I don't know where were my old files, but I created new files for the ships. CONTENT is done. As far as I'm concern, there will be loads of pictures and all text is done and it'll be like it is now in my computer. Only commentary short text under some thumbnails will be added. Need to actually add them picture in the pages.

what's left:
- CSS
- backgrounds
- borders for backgrounds
- navigation menu
- picture navigation (undecided)
- add the already selected picture in all pages

I still haven't decided what to use for pictures: flash, javascript, php, html. I'll start with a static page dynamically generated to save on time and might just launch like this with an upgrade in the coming weeks. The easy way to get it online asap will be the one I pick! So as of now... it'll be static php auto-made.

that's it for the mumbo jumbo techy stuff

calling all artists: if you can design nice pirate-style or "1720 golden age of sail" style background and borders, I urge you to message me. I have ideas but no talent.

10:56 am - End of the year

Hey why is it already the end, we're in November?!

The answer is quite simple! on Nov. 7th ended a full year of party. cause in 2007, that's when I hit 30. Meaning I completed my 30th full year of living. Not all humans can brag about it. So to make it special, I decided my 30th completed year would be one of a kind. I partied, hung with friends, went to special places, etc. I even bought a week of vacation in Florida that will be in 2009.

So Nov.7th 2008 marked the end of my 31st complete year of living, meaning I'm now 31 years old thus not 30 anymore. Party's over! And what a better way to end this by taking some days off, throwing a huge party at my place (at my own expense too) and seeing my family?!!

Let's sum it all
- the biggest snowfall of all time for a winter (2007-2008)
- I went back to the gym and I feel good about it
- the shittiest summer of all time regarding the weather (LOTS of rain and cloud)
- busiest summer in the recent years
- all-time record of night out exploring places
- a lot of beer in the past 12 months
- first time I buy a vacation in the SOUTH (Florida for instance)
- my first strip online (see bitstrips related posts)
- a lot of good times with my friends
- my brother was there for my "goodbye 30 party"
- and more

Whats' next for my 31st?? Webcomics! I'll put some real efforts, I already started, and will keep pushing for my CONTENT and to actually PUBLISH it. That's a big step! no matter if it's good or bad, like Tom said: creation is king!

08:46 am - devlog - potbs and bitstrips

First: potbs

I'm still toying around with content, I need to figure a way to present all the stuff in a coherent manner. First version with beta stuff was nice, but I added so much content that the structure is now obsolete. I haven't done much during the previous week. I will remove BF2 from my optical drive in order to avoid double-clicking the icon when i log into my system at home.

Second: bitstrips

Yes, I'm that kind of person that keeps multiple projects running at once. So I end up never finishing anything. I'm always moving onto something else. I try VERY HARD to overcome that issue and finish something. Releasing the potbs fansite was something big for me although I knew it looked ugly and was not exactly what I had in mind.

So bitstrips is something I want to complete too. It's not big, but it's the launchpad for more webcomics in the future. I've been wanting to make my own for more than 2 years but all I've been doing is to write down stuff. The stories, the characters, more stories, some notes about the visul that I'd like, etc. And then bitstrips is here! It's the ideal solution for a guy like me with lots of ideas but no drawing talent.

And then it's only the prelude for what's coming next. I'm working on a single serie  with limited characters (up to 4) and limited strips. When the series is completed I'll put it online and I'll move on to my latent webcomic project.

09:02 am - sneak peek preview

I haven't done much this week, quite busy and preparing my Wednesday's exam. But I thought I'd give away a sample of some pics you will find online when my potbs fansite will at last go live.

Browse over here to get some ships pictures. There will be a LOT more in a few weeks. I'm aiming for the end of October. Content is almost sorted out, just need to build a website now. I don't want to use my previous shell and I'm about to trash the new one I was toying around with for the past months.

01:12 pm - devlog - ports and port battles

Added port: TAMPA
Found my shooting for Turtling Bay! It's night shots but still greta, not as dark as some other towns we've seen.

Working on Port Battles. I haven't attended much PB's but sometimes I would think about grabbing some souvenirs. I spread the pics between 3 categories and since I have only a limited number of them, I will just throw them all in. Port Battles are a very important part of the game so they deserve more exposure than what I can offer.

I'm also sorting out all the odd stuff I found in the game. And I'm also doing the UI specifics and some Merchant's important duties. This 2.0 version will be a big upgrade in term of content and that's why I took so long before doing it. Of course, I'm 2 months late, but I can live with that.

05:50 pm

This one comes from about a week ago. We were getting ready to go out and my girlfriend said sometimes she'd need 40 hands to hold everything and get her shoes and unlock the door and grab her purse, etc... you see what I mean? And then I replied "but what do you do when you have to leave in a hurry and you can't find 8 of your gloves" cause we all know how cold it gets during winter in Quebec City.

02:47 pm - devlog - ports

The following ports have their screen-shots selected! Requesting only minor adjustments to some night scenes in which everything is very dark.

Fort-de-France
Havana
Leogane
Marsh Harbor
Port Royale
Puerto Cabezas
Bartica
Orleans
La Isabella
West End
Rudy Cove
Santo Domingo
Spanish Town
Cape Vela

Some ports aren't listed yet because they were sorted for other purpose, like port battles, missions, etc. Need to find my Turtling Bay pictures, I know I made a shooting there. And some drama scenes at Puerto Cabezas as well!

01:29 pm - devlog - ships update

Done with the following ships too:
Postillionen Mastercraft Frigate
Stralsund Mastercraft Frigate
Sultan Flute

I had to rework the Raa MC and Strals MC because they look alike way too much. And I sometimes didn't set any particular color so screenshots were with vanilla outfits. It's all sorted now, here's the complete list of the ships that will be filling up the vessel's part:

Arcadia Mastercraft Xebec
Atlas Bark
Bermuda Sloop
Bermuda Traders Sloop
Deliverance Frigate
Halifax Schooner
Hornet Gunboat
Oliphant Indiaman
Otter Skuda
Postillionen Mastercraft Frigate
Raa Mastercraft Frigate
Santiago Trader's Galleon
Stralsund Mastercraft Frigate
Sultan Flute

I even had to do some research on potbs.wikia.com and www.potbs.com and more, just to make sure I wasn'T confusing myself between raa and stralsund. now I know how to quickly recognize them!

Next will be the towns and ports!

11:15 am - POTBS fansite devlog

Yes, you got it right: I'm working (slowly, part time) on version 2 of my potbs fansite.

I had over 500 screenshots that needed some sorting. That part is done, up to 98% I would say. I'm now into picking up the pics that will be displayed in each and every section. Starting with the ships, of course, and I hope you'll be pleased with what you'll see. I'm trying to balance between battles, open sea and "showroom" pics. There is no such thing as a show room but when I could, I would take out the ship for a run on the sea just for the sake of grabbing some screenshots!

I will pick up to 9 frames per ship, if I have that much available. Ships from BETA might not appear in the final list due to poor quality or simply because they are from BETA game.

The list will grow longer as I process all the files but so far the following pictures have been sorted:

Arcadia Mastercraft Xebec
Atlas Bark
Bermuda Sloop
Bermuda Traders Sloop
Deliverance Frigate
Halifax Schooner
Hornet Gunboat
Oliphant Indiaman
Otter Skuda
Raa Mastercraft Frigate

Might need some minor adjustment for night scenes that are very dark. I'll try not to lose any quality in the process!
